What this amendment would do
SA 5507, submitted by Ms. Hirono and Mr. Van Hollen, aims to change the bill by striking everything after the enacting clause and replacing it with a new section.
The purpose of this amendment is to provide additional funding for Federal Pell Grants. Specifically, it would:
- Appropriate $17,000,000,000 to the Secretary of Education for fiscal year 2026.
- Use money from the Treasury that has not been otherwise appropriated.
- Use these funds for awarding grants under section 401 of the Higher Education Act of 1965.
