What this amendment would do

SA 5502, submitted by Ms. Klobuchar, aims to add a section regarding the APPROPRIATION FOR COPS PROGRAM.

The purpose of this amendment is to:

Transfer $1,047,000,000 from the Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to the Attorney General to carry out the program under part Q of title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968.
Prevent the Attorney General from withholding grants from an Indian tribal government, unit of local government, or State because they failed to cooperate with the Federal Government regarding the enforcement of immigration laws.
