What this amendment would do
SA 5495, submitted by Mr. Warner, aims to add a section to bill S. 2 regarding the use of funds for privacy-enhancing services.
The amendment proposes that the Secretary of Homeland Security use $100,000,000 to provide these services to the following groups:
- Immigration officers whose duties put them at greater risk of threats, intimidation, harassment, stalking, or similar actions.
- The spouses, children, or parents of those officers.
- Familial relatives of those officers who share the same permanent residence.
- State or local law enforcement offices covered under an agreement under section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
To receive these services, immigration or law enforcement officers must visibly display their face, the name of their employing organization or Federal law enforcement agency, and their last name along with a unique individual identifier.
The Secretary of Homeland Security is allowed to create regulations for exceptions to the requirement of displaying the last name and unique identifier.
