What this amendment would do
SA 5491, submitted by Ms. Smith and Ms. Klobuchar, proposes two changes to bill S. 2:
-
It changes a dollar amount on page 6, line 22 from $31,075,000,000 to $30,075,000,000.
-
It adds a new section, SEC. 204, which creates a relief fund for states and municipalities. This section appropriates $1,000,000,000 to the Attorney General for fiscal year 2026, available through September 30, 2029.
The purpose of this new funding is to provide grants to States to help them recover from economic and physical damages caused by:
- Operation Metro Surge
- Operation Catch of the Day
- Operation Midway Blitz
- Other similar large-scale federal immigration enforcement actions.
