What this amendment would do
SA 5481, submitted by Mr. Hickenlooper, aims to shift funding from one agency to another within bill S. 2.
The amendment proposes the following changes:
-
Reduction of Funds: It reduces the amount appropriated to the Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for fiscal year 2026 by $1,000,000,000.
-
New Appropriation: It appropriates $1,000,000,000 to the Director of the National Science Foundation for fiscal year 2026.
The purpose of this funding is to fully fund the National Center for Atmospheric Research for at least 5 years, remaining available until September 30, 2031. This is intended to support the prediction and modeling of wildfire impacts, space weather, and severe weather events.
