What this amendment would do
SA 5451, submitted by Mr. Sanders, aims to add a limitation on contributions to independent expenditure committees to bill S. 2.
-
The amendment changes Section 315(a)(1)(C) of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 by replacing the phrase "to any other political committee" with "to an independent expenditure committee or any other political committee."
-
It adds a definition for "independent expenditure committee," which is a political committee that makes independent expenditures or contributions to other independent expenditure committees totaling $5,000 or more during a calendar year. This definition also includes accounts created by a political committee for these purposes.
-
These changes would apply starting in the first calendar year that begins after the Act is enacted and every year after that.
