What this amendment would do
SA 5448, also known as the Save Our Seafood Act, is an amendment proposed by Ms. Murkowski to be added to bill S. 2.
The purpose of this amendment is to change the rules regarding H-2B nonimmigrant visas. Specifically, it aims to:
-
Exempt certain aliens from the numerical limitation on H-2B visas if they are employed, or have a job offer, as a fish processor, a fish roe processor, a fish roe technician, or a supervisor of fish roe processing.
-
Define fish as aquatic animal life (fresh or saltwater finfish, mollusks, crustaceans, and roe), excluding birds and marine mammals.
-
Define processor as someone engaged in processing activities like handling, storing, preparing, freezing, packing, and labeling. This definition excludes people who only harvest or transport fish, those preparing fish solely for holding on a harvest vessel, or those operating retail stores.
-
Repeal Section 14006 of the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2005.
