What this amendment would do

Mr. Bennet submitted this amendment to the congressional budget resolution for fiscal year 2025. Plain and simple, it sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund for land management in the western United States.

The Purpose and Changes

The purpose of this fund is to allow the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to make changes to financial levels and the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation dealing with western land management. Specifically, it can be used for reinstating fired Federal employees at the Bureau of Land Management.

According to the text, these specific employees are responsible for jobs like:

  • Administering grazing leases

  • Oil and gas development

  • Mining

  • Outdoor recreation

  • Other uses that generate revenue for the Federal Government

The big catch to keep our officials accountable is that any legislation using this fund would not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
