What this amendment would do
Mr. Bennet submitted this amendment, numbered SA 532, to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025 through fiscal year 2034. The text sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund.
Purpose and Changes
The purpose of this amendment is to protect the ability of consumers to pay their energy bills. It aims to add a section to the budget resolution that allows the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to make adjustments and revise allocations for legislation relating to energy bills.
Specifically, this allows for changes to support legislation that prohibits any action that would reduce or eliminate funding meant to help American consumers pay for things like heating, air conditioning, or electricity. To make these changes happen, the legislation cannot increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
