What this amendment would do
Mr. Hawley put forward this amendment, known as SA 516, to be added to the congressional budget resolution for fiscal year 2025. As folks we elected to represent us, we need to keep a close eye on how they handle our taxpayer-funded programs like Medicaid.
The Purpose And Changes
What The Amendment Aims To Do
-
Creates a reserve fund: The amendment sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund specifically relating to preventing any cuts to the Medicaid program.
-
Gives budget flexibility: It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to change allocations, aggregates, and other levels, and make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for certain bills or amendments.
-
Keeps the budget balanced: These changes can only happen if the legislation prevents cuts to Medicaid and does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
