What this amendment would do
Ms. Klobuchar submitted SA 502, which proposes to add a new section to title III of the concurrent budget resolution for fiscal year 2025.
-
The amendment creates a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to providing public safety officer benefits for exposure-related cancers.
-
It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution.
-
It also allows the Chairman to make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation relating to providing public safety officer benefits for exposure-related cancers.
The Purpose of the Amendment
The purpose is to give the Budget Committee Chairman the ability to adjust budget numbers for one or more bills, joint resolutions, amendments, or reports that provide public safety officer benefits for exposure-related cancers.
- There is a strict rule attached: this can only happen if the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
