What this amendment would do

MR. PETERS submitted amendment numbered SA 485 to be proposed for the concurrent resolution S. Con. Res. 7, which sets the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025 and the appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034.

Purpose and Changes

The amendment aims to add a new section to the end of title III regarding a deficit-neutral reserve fund. This fund relates to any unlawful access, disclosure, or misuse of the private personal information or tax information of the people of the United States, including such actions by individuals affiliated with the U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization.

To make this happen, the amendment allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution. They can also make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for bills, joint resolutions, amendments, amendments between the Houses, motions, or conference reports that deal with these privacy violations. This is allowed as long as the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
