What this amendment would do

The amendment proposed by Mr. Wyden aims to add a section regarding the publication and transmission to Congress of reports based on investigations under section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.

Purpose and Changes:

Past Reports: It requires the Secretary of Commerce to publish in the Federal Register all reports submitted to the President on or after January 20, 2025, and before the Act's enactment. This excludes classified or proprietary information. Classified portions must be transmitted to Congress for viewing by Members and staff with security clearances.
Future Reports: It amends the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 to require that any part of a report not containing classified or proprietary information be published in the Federal register on the same day it is submitted to the President.
