What this amendment would do

SA 4624, submitted by Mr. Schiff, aims to add a section regarding Bureau of Energy Resources Staffing to bill S. 1383.

The purpose of this amendment is to require the Secretary of State, through the Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Energy Resources, to do the following:

Reinstate personnel who were terminated or subject to a reduction in force.
Otherwise hire personnel.

These positions within the Bureau of Energy Resources must have responsibilities related to energy challenges caused by the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz and the conflict in the Islamic Republic of Iran that started on February 28, 2026.
