What this amendment would do

SA 4613, submitted by Mr. Hickenlooper, aims to add a section to bill S. 1383 regarding the impacts of funding cuts and staff shortages on wildfire risks.

The purpose of this amendment is to require the Secretary of Agriculture and the Secretary of the Interior to provide a briefing to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry.

The briefing must describe the following:

Projections for the severity and extent of the upcoming wildfire season due to ongoing drought.
The scale and impact of staffing reductions in Federal land management agencies on wildfire mitigation.
The scale and impact of staffing reductions on wildfire response and suppression, specifically including personnel with Incident Qualification Cards ("red cards").
The scale and impact of staffing reductions on wildfire recovery and restoration.
