What this amendment would do
SA 4600, submitted by Mr. Wyden, is an amendment to bill S. 1383.
The purpose of this amendment is to increase the top individual tax rate. It aims to add a new section to the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to change the tax rate for high-income taxpayers.
- The tax rate for income exceeding the applicable threshold will be 39.6 percent instead of the 37-percent rate bracket.
- The applicable threshold is $20,000,000 for certain taxpayers and 1/2 of that amount for others.
This change would apply to taxable years beginning after December 31, 2025.
