What this amendment would do
SA 4589, submitted by Mr. Wyden, aims to change the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to increase the top individual tax rate.
The amendment proposes the following changes:
-
It adds a new paragraph to Section 1(j) regarding modifications to income tax brackets for high-income taxpayers.
-
For taxable years starting after December 31, 2025, the tax rate on taxable income exceeding the applicable threshold will be 39.6 percent instead of 37 percent.
-
The applicable threshold is defined as $400,000,000 for certain taxpayers and 1/2 of that amount for others.
