What this amendment would do

SA 4587, submitted by Mr. Wyden, aims to add a section to bill S. 1383 to increase the top individual tax rate.

The amendment proposes the following changes:

The tax rate for the 37-percent bracket will increase to 39.6 percent for taxable years beginning after December 31, 2025.
This rate applies to taxable income that exceeds an applicable threshold.
The applicable threshold is defined as:
- $600,000,000 for certain taxpayers.
- 1/2 of that amount for other specific taxpayers.
