What this amendment would do
Mr. King put forward this amendment to hold our officials accountable when it comes to how the government collects money from big businesses. Plain and simple, it sets up a roadblock in the Senate against lowering taxes for corporations.
What It Changes in the Bill
The amendment adds a new rule to the budget resolution. Here is what that rule does:
- It creates a point of order in the Senate against any bill, resolution, motion, amendment, or conference report that decreases corporate tax revenue.
- This restriction applies to the current fiscal year, the budget year, and the following 9 fiscal years.
- It states that this new rule can only be waived or suspended if three-fifths of the Senators vote to do so.
- It also requires that same three-fifths vote if someone wants to appeal a ruling made by the Chair regarding this rule.
