What this amendment would do
This amendment, submitted by Mr. Wyden, aims to add a section to bill S. 1383 to create two new recreation areas in Oregon: the Rogue Canyon Recreation Area (approximately 98,150 acres) and the Molalla Recreation Area (approximately 29,884 acres).
The purpose of these designations is to protect, conserve, and enhance the following values:
- Recreational
- Ecological
- Scenic
- Cultural
- Watershed
- Fish and wildlife
The Secretary of the Interior would manage these areas and is required to:
- Create official maps and legal descriptions for public inspection.
- Conduct a wildfire risk assessment and develop a wildfire mitigation plan that includes vegetation management and evacuation routes.
- Limit the construction of new roads, except for public safety or specific wildfire mitigation needs.
- Withdraw the land from mining, mineral leasing, and other forms of entry or disposal.
