What this amendment would do
SA 4515, submitted by Mr. Bennet, aims to create special rules for voters who lost or destroyed their eligibility documents during a federally declared disaster.
The amendment seeks to add the following changes:
-
Registration: It requires each State to create a process where individuals who lost documentary proof of U.S. citizenship in a federally declared disaster can submit evidence of that loss and their citizenship. A State or local official will then determine if the person has established citizenship for the purpose of registering to vote in Federal office elections.
-
Voting Identification: It requires each State to create a process where an individual who had a valid photo identification lost or destroyed in a federally declared disaster can be provided a ballot after demonstrating the loss or destruction of that identification.
