What this amendment would do

SA 4493, submitted by Mr. Schiff, is an amendment to bill S. 1383. Its purpose is to add a requirement for reporting information regarding aliens held at Department of Defense installations.

The amendment aims to add the following:

The Secretary of Defense must submit the alien registration number of any alien detained at a Department of Defense installation, including those in the United States, to the appropriate committees of Congress.
This report must be submitted no later than 12 hours after the alien is detained.
It defines "alien" based on section 101 of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
It specifies the "appropriate committees of Congress" as the following:
- Senate: Committee on the Judiciary, Committee on Foreign Relations, Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and Committee on Armed Services.
- House of Representatives: Committee on the Judiciary, Committee on Foreign Affairs, Committee on Homeland Security, and Committee on Armed Services.
