What this amendment would do
Mrs. Shaheen submitted amendment SA 440 to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025. The purpose of this amendment is to hold the line on energy costs for the people we serve.
- Adds a new point of order against energy cost increases in the Senate.
- Aims to stop the consideration of any bill, resolution, motion, amendment, or conference report that increases energy costs for American families, farmers, or businesses.
- Targets energy cost increases that would happen by taking back funding originally provided through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act or the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 for energy-saving improvements.
- Requires a three-fifths vote of the sworn Members of the Senate to waive or suspend this rule, or to sustain an appeal of the Chair's ruling.
