What this amendment would do

SA 4358, submitted by Ms. Baldwin, aims to add a section regarding Volunteer First Responder Housing to bill H.R. 6644. The purpose of this amendment is to provide housing-related benefits to individuals defined as qualified volunteer first responders.

The amendment seeks to add the following:

Department of Agriculture Single Family Housing Guaranteed Loan Program: It allows a qualified volunteer first responder to receive an $18,000 deduction in annual income if they provide a verification letter to the Secretary of Agriculture.
Good Neighbor Next Door Sales Program and Similar Programs: It allows a qualified volunteer first responder to qualify as a firefighter or emergency medical technician for single family property disposition programs that offer discounted home prices. To do this, they must provide a verification letter to the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, which includes a certification of their good faith intention to continue volunteering for at least 1 year after closing.
