What this amendment would do

SA 4339, submitted by Mr. Merkley and Ms. Warren, is an amendment to amendment SA 4308 for bill H.R. 6644, which focuses on increasing the housing supply in America.

The purpose of this amendment is to stop certain tax deductions for large institutional investors. Specifically, it aims to change the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to:

Disallow deductions for mortgage interest paid or accrued by large institutional investors.
Disallow depreciation deductions for property held by large institutional investors.

These changes would take effect for taxable years starting more than 5 years after the Act is enacted.
