What this amendment would do

SA 4332, submitted by Mr. Merkley, is an amendment to H.R. 6644, which is a bill meant to increase the housing supply in America.

The purpose of this amendment is to add a section regarding the combining of siting and purchase of loans for manufactured housing. It aims to do the following:

Require the Federal National Mortgage Association and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation to work with mortgage lending institutions, such as community development financial institutions, to research and develop or modify a loan product.
This loan product is intended for people buying and siting a new manufactured home on land they own, either alone or as part of a resident cooperative.
The loan product should serve nonprofit producers of manufactured homes selling to subprime credit rated borrowers.
The loan should cover the cost of the manufactured home, its transportation and siting, and any related insurance.
