What this amendment would do

This amendment aims to add a section to H.R. 6644 that requires the Comptroller General of the United States to conduct several studies and submit reports to Congress.

The purpose of these additions is to gather information and recommendations on the following:

  • Workforce Housing: A study on middle-income households (those earning above 80-percent but not exceeding 120-percent of the area median family income). This study identifies obstacles to affordable housing, geographic areas of high unaffordability, Federal programs unavailable to these households, and recommendations for a Federal definition and modification of programs for "workforce housing."

  • Housing for Elderly or Disabled: A study identifying options to remove barriers and improve housing for elderly or disabled persons, including the impacts of capital advances for specific supportive housing programs.

  • Proximity to Superfund Sites: A study identifying the number of residential dwelling units and public housing units located less than 1 mile from sites on the National Priorities List.

  • Residential Heirs Property: A study and report to the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and the House Committee on Financial Services. This report establishes a definition for residential heirs property, examines its occurrence and consequences, describes the Uniform Partition of Heirs Property Act, details available resources for owners, and makes recommendations to reduce the number of residential heirs properties through incentives and grants.
