What this amendment would do

SA 4097, submitted by Mr. Bennet, is an amendment to H.R. 4016. It aims to add requirements for how the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development manages personnel for the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity.

The purpose of the amendment is to ensure that:

  • Each of the 10 geographic regions has on-board Federal personnel to handle Fair Housing Act enforcement and compliance, including investigation, intake, conciliation, compliance reviews, and enforcement support.

  • Every region has a designated on-board Federal employee to coordinate enforcement activities and act as a point of contact for the public, grantees, and complainants.

  • No funds from the Act can be used in a way that leaves any region without on-board Federal personnel for these activities.

  • The number of on-board Federal personnel for these functions in each region cannot be lower than the number assigned as of the date the Act is enacted.
