S.Amdt. 4085

SA 4085, submitted by Mrs. Shaheen, is an amendment to amendment SA 3951, which is proposed for bill H.R. 4016.

The purpose of this amendment is to require the Bureau of Prisons to use available funds for the following:

• The deployment of advanced, portable screening technology in prison mail-receiving facilities.
• The use of terahertz scanning capabilities to detect contraband such as dangerous powders, liquids, drug-laced papers, and fentanyl that threaten the safety of inmates and facility personnel.

The amendment also aims to ensure this equipment is used in a way that preserves the confidentiality of attorney-client privileged mail and legal mail.
