What this amendment would do

SA 3952, submitted by Mr. Hawley, aims to add a section to bill H.R. 4016. The purpose is to require the Secretary of Labor, through the Commissioner of Labor Statistics, to use available funds to track and report on how artificial intelligence impacts jobs in the economy, specifically including job loss or displacement.

  • Data Collection and Reporting: The amendment requires the collection of data every calendar quarter and the preparation of reports summarizing that data. A yearly summary must be prepared for the quarter ending December 31.

  • Analysis: For other calendar quarters, a report must be prepared to analyze the net impact using the current and preceding quarter's data, along with any other relevant data available to the Secretary of Labor.

  • Transparency and Accountability: Within 60 days after each calendar quarter ends, the reports and their underlying data must be published on the Bureau of Labor Statistics website and submitted to Congress.
