What this amendment would do

SA 3934, proposed by Mr. Cruz, aims to change the text of resolution S. Res. 463 by striking everything after the resolving clause and replacing it with new specific demands and condemnations.

The amendment seeks to add the following:

  • Condemnations: It strongly condemns the Chinese Communist Party for persecuting religious minority groups, specifically mentioning Pastor "Ezra" Jin Mingri and leaders and members of Zion Church.

  • U.S. Commitment: It reaffirms that the United States is committed to promoting religious freedom and tolerance globally and providing relief and protection to persecuted religious minorities.

  • Demands for Release: It calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Pastor Jin, all detained members of Zion Church, and other wrongfully or arbitrarily detained religious believers in China, including Tibetan Buddhists, Uyghur Muslims, and other Christians.

  • Cessation of Harassment: It calls for the Government of the People's Republic of China to stop the intimidation and harassment of Zion Church members and their relatives, including transnational repression.

  • Human Rights: It demands that the Government of the People's Republic of China end violence and discrimination against religious minority groups and respect the international human right to freedom of belief or religion.
