What this amendment would do
This amendment, submitted by Ms. Duckworth, creates a new rule in the Senate to hold our officials accountable when it comes to keeping our skies safe.
Main Purpose and Changes
-
The amendment adds a point of order to title IV of the concurrent resolution.
-
It aims to stop the Senate from considering any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, or conference report that would allow for a reduction in the number of air traffic controller positions within the Department of Transportation.
-
To get around this rule and allow a reduction anyway, it would take a three-fifths affirmative vote of the Senators chosen and sworn.
-
Overturning a ruling by the Chair on this point of order also requires that same three-fifths affirmative vote.
