What this amendment would do
MR. PETERS submitted amendment SA 391 to the concurrent resolution setting forth the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
The purpose of this amendment is to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund related to ensuring that tariffs do not increase prices for United States consumers.
Specifically, it aims to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution, and make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger.
These adjustments can be made for legislation relating to ensuring that no tariffs implemented on imports from Canada will increase the price of goods for United States consumers.
To make these changes, the legislation must meet a specific condition: it would not increase the deficit over the period of the total of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
