What this amendment would do
Mr. Peters submitted amendment SA 389 to the Senate budget resolution for fiscal year 2025. The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to preventing unelected billionaires from using government positions to enrich themselves.
Changes and Additions to the Bill
-
The amendment adds a new section to title III of the budget resolution.
-
It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other levels.
-
It permits adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation relating to ensuring that certain individuals complete specific actions.
-
The targeted individuals are each special Government employee with a net worth of more than $1,000,000,000.
-
These individuals must complete a public financial disclosure form and divest stock or themselves of any position in any company that does business with the Government.
-
If they do not, companies associated with such special Government employees shall be barred from contracting with the Government.
-
The changes apply as long as the legislation would not increase the deficit over the total of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
