What this amendment would do
Mr. King put forward this amendment, known as SA 364, to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025. It deals with making sure our veterans get the care they need without adding to our national debt.
What It Aims To Change Or Add
Expanding Veterans' Care
The amendment adds a new section to the bill that creates a deficit-neutral reserve fund. This allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to make adjustments and changes for legislation relating to health care for veterans.
Specifically, it focuses on legislation to expand mental health resources for veterans. This includes:
- Telehealth services
- Resources available through community-based outpatient clinics run by the Department of Veterans Affairs
- Vet Centers that provide readjustment counseling services
Keeping Track Of The Cost
The big catch here is accountability. Any legislation passed using this fund would not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
