What this amendment would do
Mr. King submitted amendment SA 346 to hold our officials accountable by creating a new rule in the Senate. This rule sets up a point of order against any legislation that would cut health insurance access and affordability for people based on their job, unless separate laws are passed to give those workers comparable benefits and protections.
How It Works
-
The rule makes it out of order in the Senate to consider bills, joint resolutions, motions, amendments, or conference reports that reduce health insurance access and affordability based on occupation.
-
This rule can only be waived or suspended in the Senate by an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Members.
-
Overturning a ruling of the Chair on this point of order also requires an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Members of the Senate.
