What this amendment would do
Mr. King, along with Ms. Alsobrooks, submitted SA 345 to the concurrent resolution for the congressional budget for fiscal year 2025 and levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034. As folks who rely on our government to work for us, we need to keep a close eye on how our public servants are treated and whether they can be let go without a good reason.
What It Changes or Adds
This amendment adds a new section to title III that creates a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to prohibiting the Food and Drug Administration from firing staff without cause.
Here is what it actually does:
- It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise budget allocations, aggregates, and other levels, and make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger.
- These revisions are for legislation relating to public health.
- The legislation may include prohibiting the Food and Drug Administration from firing staff unless there is cause or genuine performance justification or if doing so is opposed to the work of the agency.
- This can only happen if the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
