What this amendment would do

SA 3447, submitted by Mr. Murphy and Mr. Kelly, aims to add a reporting requirement to section 412 of division A of bill H.R. 3944.

The purpose of this amendment is to require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to publish a report on a publicly available website every quarter. This report must include:

  • The number of veterans who would have been reported to the national instant criminal background check system if the Secretary was permitted to do so.
  • The number of firearm suicides among those veterans that happened in the previous quarter.

What Congress actually voted on

One recorded vote has been taken on this amendment.

  • The Senate: a vote on a proposed change to the billAmendment Rejected 44–51

A vote on one change, not on the bill. A bill can collect dozens of these, and losing one does not stop it.
