What this amendment would do
As folks back home struggle to find a place they can actually afford to live, our elected officials need to be held accountable for making housing a priority. This amendment, submitted by Ms. Cantwell, creates a special funding setup called a deficit-neutral reserve fund focused entirely on expanding the supply of affordable housing.
What It Aims To Change Or Add
The Main Goals
-
Allows the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to change financial allocations and adjustments for future legislation dealing with housing policy.
-
Helps fund the expansion and strengthening of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit.
-
Creates Federal incentives to encourage State and local governments to cut down on red tape and regulatory burdens, while putting programs in place to boost the affordable housing supply.
-
Strictly requires that any of these housing actions must not increase the federal deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
