What this amendment would do
MR. KELLY submitted SA 331 to the concurrent resolution on the congressional budget for fiscal year 2025 through 2034. As folks who elect these officials, we need to know what they are trying to do with our budget, so here is the plain truth based strictly on the text provided.
The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to strengthening nutrition assistance programs for low-income members of the United States Armed Forces, military retirees, and their families.
What It Aims to Change or Add
-
It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution.
-
It allows adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation relating to strengthening nutrition assistance programs.
-
It specifically allows for preventing cuts to the supplemental nutrition assistance program established by the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008.
-
It allows for bolstering funding for the Food and Nutrition Service to provide nutrition assistance to members of the United States Armed Forces, their families, or military veterans.
-
All of these changes are allowed provided that such legislation would not increase the deficit over the period of the total of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
