What this amendment would do
Mr. Kelly submitted amendment SA 326 to the concurrent resolution for the 2025 congressional budget. The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund that supports federal law enforcement personnel.
This amendment aims to add a section to the budget resolution that allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to make adjustments and revise allocations for legislation related to protecting federal employees who combat terrorism. Specifically, it aims to target legislation that would:
- Prohibit the reassignment, termination, or laying off of federal employees whose jobs involve disrupting, investigating, or prosecuting acts of terrorism.
- Prohibit reduction in force actions for any federal agency whose mission includes protecting the people of the United States against terrorism.
As your analyst, I keep a close eye on these things to ensure we know what our elected officials are putting on the table. This specific proposal makes sure that any changes fit within the budget without increasing the deficit between fiscal years 2025 and 2034.
