What this amendment would do
SA 3144, submitted by Mr. Budd and Mr. Heinrich, aims to add a section to H.R. 3944.
The purpose of this amendment is to require the Food and Drug Administration to use its current regulatory and enforcement powers to stop the importation of GLP-1 and GIP/GLP-1 drugs from the Republic of China or other foreign countries if they seem to be:
- Counterfeit
- Unapproved
- Misbranded
- Adulterated
This includes blocking bulk drug substances or active pharmaceutical ingredients coming from facilities in China.
To do this, the FDA can use tools such as:
- Issuing warning letters
- Starting civil enforcement actions
- Refusing the entry of these drugs, bulk drug substances, and active pharmaceutical ingredients from those facilities.
- 7/30/2025
