What this amendment would do

SA 3124, submitted by Mrs. Gillibrand, aims to change how appointments are handled for people seeking certification, recertification, or nutritional risk evaluations for the special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants, and children (WIC).

The amendment proposes the following:

  • Individuals may have appointments via telephone, 2-way real-time interactive video technology, or other formats decided by the Secretary of Agriculture.

  • If a person certifies for the program using a format other than in-person, the State agency must collect the necessary anthropometric data to evaluate nutritional risk within 60 days of that appointment.
