What this amendment would do
Mr. Wyden submitted SA 309 to the concurrent resolution on the congressional budget for fiscal year 2025. Common sense tells us that when our elected officials handle the budget, we need to keep a close eye on them to make sure they are looking out for working people and businesses.
This amendment aims to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund at the end of title III. The specific purpose of this fund is to relate to preventing energy price increases on American consumers and businesses.
What It Aims to Change or Add
The amendment allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution. It also allows the Chairman to make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for certain legislative actions.
These changes can be made for legislation relating to preventing price increases for consumers and businesses. Specifically, these price increases would result from abandoning an America-focused energy strategy and stripping away support for advanced and quickly deployable technologies that can increase the abundance of available power.
There is a strict rule attached to this to protect the public purse: the legislation must not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
