What this amendment would do

SA 3049, submitted by Ms. Hirono, aims to add a requirement for the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to provide a report to Congress regarding the cost of the Department of Veterans Affairs return to in-office work policy.

The amendment requires this report to be submitted no later than 60 days after the Act is enacted and must detail the following:

  • Costs associated with the return to in-office work policy, specifically past and projected costs for additional office space, modifications to existing space, relocation incentives, and transit subsidies and reimbursements.

  • The number of staff who commute two or more hours each way to follow the return to in-office work policy.

  • The number of staff working in Federal facilities that are not leased or owned by the Department because of the return to in-office work policy.
