What this amendment would do
SA 3042, submitted by Mrs. Shaheen and Mr. Grassley, aims to add a requirement for a report to H.R. 3944. The purpose is to have the Secretary of Veterans Affairs report on the use of third-party contractors who perform medical disability examinations for veterans seeking disability compensation.
The report must be submitted to the Senate and House Committees on Appropriations and Veterans' Affairs within 180 days of the Act's enactment. It must include:
- The number of contractors used for these exams in each State.
- Measures regarding the quality and performance of the contracts.
- The average miles veterans travel to attend these exams, broken down by State.
- The average wait time to get an examination.
- How the Department handles veteran complaints regarding their experience with a contracted examiner.
