What this amendment would do
SA 3027, submitted by Ms. Duckworth, aims to add new requirements for the Secretary of Veterans Affairs when visiting Department of Veterans Affairs medical facilities.
The amendment proposes the following changes:
-
Notice Requirements: The Secretary must provide notice of the intent to visit a facility for official business at least 30 days before the visit. This notice must be given to the head of the medical facility, the Senator of that State, and the Member of the House of Representatives for that congressional district.
-
Hatch Act Evaluation: The Secretary cannot visit a Department medical facility for any reason without first getting an opinion from the General Counsel of the Department. This opinion must determine if the visit violates the Hatch Act.
