What this amendment would do

SA 3026, submitted by Ms. Duckworth, aims to add a section to the bill that limits the funds available for the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

The amendment proposes that no funds for the Secretary's basic pay, benefits, or expenses can be used until the Secretary provides a written certification that they are complying with travel transparency requirements.

The purpose of these requirements is to ensure the Secretary makes the following information available to the public on a Department of Veterans Affairs website at no cost:

  • Official travel taken since January 20, 2025, must be posted within 5 business days after a trip ends.
  • Details for travel using private aircraft, including the date, destination, aircraft type, and owner identity.
  • Details for travel using Government aircraft, including the date, destination, and aircraft type.
  • Itineraries for official travel outside the United States.
  • A list or chart for official travel inside the United States including the location, dates, the principal traveler, purpose, mode of travel, and titles of other accompanying officers or employees.

The amendment specifies that the names or identification numbers of the Secretary's security detail must not be included in the public information.
