What this amendment would do

SA 3018, submitted by Ms. Hirono, is an amendment to be proposed to H.R. 3944. The purpose of this amendment is to require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to provide a report to Congress within 60 days of the Act's enactment.

The amendment aims to add a requirement for a report describing the following details regarding clinical trials since January 20, 2025:

  • Clinical trials funded or facilitated by the Department of Veterans Affairs that were disrupted, suspended, or cancelled.
  • The estimated number of enrolled or participating veterans in those trials.
  • Trials affected by staff terminations or researchers using voluntary early retirement authority or the deferred resignation program.
  • Staff members who were suspended or terminated because a trial was disrupted, suspended, or cancelled.
  • Costs resulting from these disruptions, including the cost to restart trials.
