What this amendment would do

SA 2972, submitted by Mr. Murphy, aims to change H.R. 3944, which handles appropriations for military construction, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and related agencies for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2026.

The purpose of this amendment is to add a requirement to section 412 of the bill. It would require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to publish a report every quarter on a public Department of Veterans Affairs website.

This report must include:

  • The number of veterans who should have been reported to the national instant criminal background check system if such reporting was permitted.
  • The number of firearm suicides among those veterans that happened in the previous quarter.
